Holothuroids, particularly those inhabiting coral reefs, can often be diagnosed by gross appearance and colour pattern alone. To assess the extent to which such characters are taxonomically useful is another major goal of our project. Hence, we are compiling a database of images to accompany the species nomenclator. For now, we offer below a sample of the holothuroid fauna of the Mariana Islands, western Micronesia. These images are modified from The Marine Biodiversity of Guam and the Mariana Islands, a joint venture of the Florida Museum of Natural History and the University of Guam Marine Laboratory.
