Stichopus

Brandt, 1835

Flattened ventral surface markedly distinct from dorsal, pedicels more or less covering the ventral side; dorsal with tubercles or papillae; at least along lateral margins. 20 tentacles. Gonads in a tuft on each side of the dorsal mesentery. No Cuverian tubules, no anal teeth or noticeable papillae around cloacal opening. Numerous calcareous tables in epidermis. Polian vesicles few, unbranched, madreporic canal single. (Clark, 1922)

Body cylindrical or with ventral side more or less flattened, with numerous tube feet; dorsal side vaulted, with papillae. 20 tentacles. Deposits tables; C-shaped bodies may (?) be present, rarely also buttons; no miliary granules. (Mortensen, 1927)

Large stichopodid holothurians, quadrangular in cross section, with thickened lateral flanks; pedicels crowded or in three longitudinal series; papillae situated on large wart-like prominences, either in rows or scattered. Body wall spicules include well formed tables, usually accompanied by C or S-shaped spicules and/or delicate rosettes. (Thandar, 1987)
