Pseudocolochirus

Pearson, 1910

6 species

Tentacles of equal size; appendages ventrally as cylindrical feet placed in three rows, towards the ends replaced by scattered papillae. Dorsally, papillae along the ambulacra, smaller ones may in some species occur in interambulacra. Skin thick, fleshy, containing few deposits. Calcareous ring simple. (Deichmann, 1930?)

Exteriorly the valvular growths are lacking. The important characteristics is the later development of the support structure up to a few buckle (strap) shape plates. As it appears the calcareous ring is not affected by the later development (decrease? rucksbildung = developing backwards) of the structure. Ekman showed (1918 p 26) that Pseudocolochirus axiologus has a complete support structure of 4 forms in its youth; Cups, delicate hollow deposits, massive deposits and scales. Accordingly, Pseudocolochirus can be derived from Colochirus. (Panning, 1971)

From Thandar, 1991: 10 equal tentacles. (Panning, 1971)
