Small to medium sized forms, ventral tentacles small, feet long non-retractile, arranged in 5 bands, but never scattered in interambulacra. Calcareous ring with long posterior prolongations on radials. Spicules two pillared, or reduced derivatives developed as acorn-like bodies. Feet with large end plate and numerous supporting tables, usually with well developed spire, in some cases completely reduced. Tentacles with rods or plates, in some forms no spicules. Spicules usually numerous, but in some species scarce. (Deichmann, 1938)

There are feet only in the radii. There are 10 tentacles. The calcareous ring is constructed of long forked tails. In the skin there are tables with 2 columns or derived forms, often plates. (Panning, 1949)

Dendrochirote holothurians generally of small size. 10 tentacles, with the two ventro-medial ones smaller. Tube feet very long, only a little retractile, and disposed in five longitudinal bands. The calcareous ring with the radials possessing long posterior tails. Spicules; tourelles in the skin, often very reduced. (Cherbonnier, 1951)
