Paelopatides

Body very broad and flattened, the ventral side forming a distinct sole, separated from the dorsal side by a strongly developed marginal brim. Mouth ventral, anus dorsal; tentacles 16(?)-20, retracted into small pockets. Tube feet in a double row in posterior part of mid-ventral radius. Deposits present 3 armed bodies with the arms widened at the end, and with a central spire or absent. No calcareous ring. Gonads on both sides of the dorsal mesentery. (Mortensen, 1927)

Tentacles 15-20, peltate, or subdigitate on margin of the crown; no tentacle ampullae; body more or less depresssed, often with a conspicuous overhanging border, bearing a single series of numerous papillae; this border or brim obsolescent in some species except at fore and hind ends of the body; pedicels form double rows in hinder one third or two thirds of midventral radius, and in some species also a single row along either ventrolateral radius, in addition to papillae; single series of papillae on dorsal ambulacra; gonads in two tufts a left and right, mouth ventral, anus dorsal or subdorsal. Deposits when present, simple triradiate or quadiradiate rods either smooth or spinous; with slightly branched tips; deposits often entirely wanting. A rete mirabile is sometimes present. Body flattened, elongate, much broader than high, with a conspicuous marginal fringe. Posterior half or one third of ventral midradius bearing a double row of pedicels. Deposits mainly 2, 3, or 4 radiate bodies, and rods with branched ends; exceptionally deposits may be lacking. (HBF)
