Acolochirus

Clark, 1946

2 species

Body elongate, quadrangular with 5 oral valves at the anterior end. Body wall hard, leathery, almost inflexible, (in preserved specimens), covered with numerous small, rounded, white, hard, calcareous protuberances, each penetrated by a minute retractile pedicel. Ventral pedicels not in defined series, except on the mid ventral radius. (Clark, 1946)

The significant characteristics of this genus are: the body is 5 cornered, rigid. The mouth has 5 flaps. The 2 side ventral radii and the 2 dorsal radii are covered with large growths which each have a foot. The body is irregular and thickly covered with small hard warts each of which have a foot. The calcareous ring has short extensions to the rear. Regarding the calcareous deposits of the skin: above they are quite flat bowls (or network plates?), below that are plates with small perforations and strong bumps, on the bottom are scales of a network type. (Panning, 1971)
