Jeremy A. Goldberg BSc, University of California at Santa Barbara; M Appl Sc candidate in Tropical Marine Ecology, James Cook University I am primarily interested in the ecology of coral reef ecosystems, specifically biodiversity and associated regulatory/influential processes such as mortality and environmental dynamics. Dr. Alex Kerr is an associate advisor on my current thesis project, which is under the primary supervision of Dr. Bette Willis at James Cook University. My thesis explores how colony morphology affects inter-specific mortality rates and ultimately species richness of the system as a whole. I am also passionate about conservation biology, particularly global threats to coral reefs and the various managment/monitoring programs attempting to reconcile these impacts. In the future, I hope to further contribute to the field of coral reef conservation and ecology. Recently, I have co-authored a chapter with Dr. Clive Wilkinson (Co-ordinator, Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network) for the biennially published report Status of the Coral Reefs of the World: 2004. This manuscript focuses on the various worldwide threats facing coral reefs, such as global climate change, coral bleaching and disease. |
