Pterocaesio marri Schultz
(Yellow-striped Fusilier; Bonita)
SL: to 20 cm (photo: 14 cm SL, Enewetak, 8 m)

The Yellow-striped Fusilier (the five fish with narrow, light-colored, horizontal bands in Figure A) sometimes occurs in mixed-species schools with the more abundant Pterocaesio tile.  A similar species with a horizontal yellow stripe, Caesio caerulaureus, differs most obviously from P. marri in possessing black streaks along both lobes of the tail fin rather than black tail tips.  C. caerulaureus is one of the most common fusiliers in Guam’s waters.

INDO-PACIFIC: E. Africa to Samoa.
