SL: to 30 cm (photo: 18 cm SL, Oahu, Hawaii, 10 m)

This puffer is occasionally encountered in moats, lagoons, and seaward reefs from 1 to 20 m in areas of rich coral growth.  It is a solitary species that feeds primarily on coral tips and to a lesser extent on tunicates and other invertebrates.

INDO-PAN-PACIFIC: E. Africa to Panama, n. to the Ryukyus, Bonins, and Hawaii, s. to Lord Howe and Ducie.
