CHAMORRO NAMES

POMACANTHIDAE (ANGELFISHES)

Apolemichthys trimaculatus (Lacepède)
(Flagfin Angelfish, Three-spot Angelfish; Ababang)
SL: to 17 cm (photo: 11 cm SL, Orote Pt., 30 m)

This is primarily an outer reef slope species which occurs at depths of 10 to over 36 m, usually in areas of high vertical relief.  It is a generally solitary, relatively uncommon species that feeds primarily on sponges and tunicates.

INDO-PACIFIC: E. Africa to Samoa, n. to s. Japan, s. to New Caledonia.
