Apogon novemfasciatus Cuvier
(Seven-lined Cardinalfish; Lansi)
SL: to 8 cm (photo: 7 cm FL, Piti, 3 m)

This is one of the most abundant cardinalfishes of shallow lagoons and reef flats to a depth of 4 m.  It is usually found in small schools under rocks or ledges or in holes.  It feeds on small fishes and crustaceans.  It is one of several nearly identical-looking striped species of Apogon.
