SL: to 12 cm (photo: 11 cm SL, Luminao Reef, 1.5 m)

This relatively large goby commonly occurs in sandy or rubbly areas of moats, channels, and lagoons to a depth of 20 m.  It is solitary or paired and constructs a burrow of loose rubble and sand.  It is occasionally exported for the aquarium trade.

INDO-PACIFIC: Red Sea to Mangareva and the Line Is., n. to the Ryukyus, s. to New Caledonia.
