CHAMORRO NAMES

LETHRINIDAE (EMPERORS)

Emperors are oblong, snapperlike fishes with relatively elongate snouts and scaleless cheeks.  Many species of Lethrinus are capable of rapid changes in coloration and often have a variable pattern of dark reticulations or blotches.  Some species root around in the sand for benthic invertebrates; others feed primarily on fishes and may be ciguatoxic.
