GOBIIDAE (GOBIES)

Most of Guam’s 75 or more species of gobies are small and inconspicuous and reside on the bottom.  Many live in burrows in sand or in holes in the reef.  A few are conspicuously colored or swim a few cm above the bottom. Some are restricted to fresh- or brackish-water habitats once they settle from the plankton.

Amblygobius phalaena (Valenciennes)
Ctenogobiops tangaroai Lubbock & Polunin
Nemateleotris magnifica Fowler
Valenciennea strigata (Broussonet)
